Unit 1 How do you study for a test  Go for it! Book 3 (教学设计) I.Teaching Aims and Demands (1) Knowledge Objects In this unit, students learn to talk about how to study for a test and give advice to those who have difficulty in studying. (2) Ability Objects To train students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills using the target language. (3) Moral Objects Everyone learns a different way,. The best one is to do. That is, no pains, no gains. 3. Teaching Key Point To make students learn and grasp the key words and the target language. 4. Teaching Difficult Point To train students ‘listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. To train students’ communicative competence. 5.Studying Way Teach students how to be successful language learners. II.Language Function Talk about how to study. III.Target Language 1.How do you study for tests Well, I study by working with my classmates. 2. Have you ever studied with a group Yes, I have. I’ve learned a lot that way. 3. I don’t have a partner to practice English with. Maybe you should join an English club. IV.Structure Verb by with gerund V. Vocabulary 1. flashcard, take notes, frustrating, memorize, aloud, make mistakes, pronunciation, be afraid to, deal with, unless, go by 2. What about… 3. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Leading in 1. Greetings . T: Welcome back to school. Did you have a good time during the summer holiday Where did you go What did you do 2. Ask some students about their summer holiday Step 2. Pre-task SB Page 2, 1a . T: We know it is not easy to learn English well. Different students have different ways to learn it. How do you study for an English test S: I study for an English test reading the textbook. T: Oh, you study for an English test by reading the textbook. 1. Ask several students to tell you how they study for a test .Make a list of their answers on the blackboard . 2. Read the lists of ways of studying to the class. Point to actual objects in the classroom( a flashcard, a cassette, a textbook) or to items in the illustration to show the meaning of each item on the list. Explain something about the structures “verb + by with gerund 〞. 3. Ask students to check the ways they usually study for an English test. While they are doing this, write the list on the board. Then read the list to the class and ask students to raise their hands to show which things they checked. Write the number of hands you see after each item on the board. 4.Then ask students to write down other ways they study for an English test. When they have finished, ask students to read their lists to the class. Discuss which are the most popular and least popular ways of studying. Step 3 While-task SB Page 2, 1b . 1.Read the instructions to the students and make sure students know what to do . 1).Get students to talk about the pictures. T: Look at how each student is studying. S1: By making flashcard. S2: By listening to cassettes. S3: By asking the teacher for help. 2).Then play recording and check the answers . T: Now, listen and then write the letter of each picture in front of the name of the person who studies that way. SB Page 2 , 1c . 1. First students work in pairs to read the sample dialogue in the textbook, then make their own dialogues. 2.Ask several pairs to present their dialogues . Step 4 Consolidation and Extension 1.Small competition: Make a list of ways of studying as many as possible by using verb by/with gerund in three minutes. Then let’s have a look which group will make the most. 2.Make a survey: Discuss and complete this survey in your small group. . S1
