Old King Lear went out to fight with the cruel nature. Walking for several miles, hardly finding any bushes or trees, the king was wandering in the heavy storm in the dark. On a piece of remote plain, he accepted the challenge of the horrible storm. Only one humble servant stayed with him. His faithful servant -- Earl Kent, disguised as Carls, found him. He followed the king continually, but the king still did not realize his true identify. Earl Kent tried his best to persuade the king to go into a shabby hut made of grass situated in a meadow. The servant went inside, but turned back quickly, crying, "Ghost!" After a careful look, the so-called ghost turned out to be only a poor insane beggar. He sought shelter from the heavy storm in the abandoned hut also. King Lear saw the poor beggar naked except for a towel around his waist. He supposed this man must have given away all his possession to his daughters as well. In his mind, only a man who had raised cruel children, would become so poor. The king could not imagine any other reason for a man to become so poor and miserable. He felt his two rebellious daughters were driving him mad also.
