Who is your role model? Who do you admire the most?
My role model is a Chinese-American NBA player, Jeremy Lin. He was born and raised in California, and he is proud of being a Chinese. The story of Lin’s basketball career is amazing and surprising. He failed in the NBA draft and no team admitted him. However, by training hard day and night, Jeremy’s efforts pay off. Jeremy Lin simply tore through the NBA in 2013 regular season. Even Kobe couldn’t stop him. He is determined and he never give up no matter what difficulty he had. That inspires me a lot. I totally love this quote- linsanity, as many sports reporters and fans call him. I learn a lot from his words-when I am on the court, I try to play with all my emotion and heart.
What is your professional experience abroad?
Well, my professional experience abroad is the exchange experience of studying at Aarhus University in Denmark. I learn a lot in terms of the global vision (perspective) and the cross-culture communication skills.
Plunged into a new environment, I cooperated with 3 exchange students from different cultures to do research and to conduct a survey of an enterprise in Copenhagen. It is a manufacturing company called cooken in Danish and It produce biscuits. We did some study on its assembly line. It feed our sight on(让我们打开眼界)! The two-month experience at Aarhus University not only brought me theoretical knowledge of economics but also the brand new experience of different education system and culture, which broadens my horizon. I’ve learned the intercultural awareness and effective cross cultural communication skills. Be patient, be tolerant with different ideas(对不同的看法要表示宽容), communicate With a mindset of mutual understanding and trusting, prepare well in advance for the different cultural or regional habit.
What is your passion? / What's your interest/ What do you expect most during your last year of college?/What do you do in your free time?/what do you like to do in leisure time/What are you passionate about in a non-professional manner?
My passion and interest lie in Going Travelling. Every time I go travelling, I would not choose the so-called comfortable destination, because I want something really different from the daily life.
This summer I went to South Africa. And I am not talking about some place like Cape Town. The place I stay is a traditional African hut. Big big open land and big big open skies. Inside is very comfortable but no electricity. The challenge there is try to learn how to live without the creature comforts you’re used to, like a PC, like a TV, like a cell phone. It is really good for me because, especially my lifestyle here can be very spoiled sometimes. We always have the best things. But can you live as a basic human being? Can you live without all that stuff? I think these kind of things push me or challenge me to expand my horizons.
It is not necessary about going to a certain place or arriving at a certain goal in travelling. The important thing is about what I learn along the way in that journey. And to always keep in your mind open about what you see before you get to the destination, to appreciate what is happening around you not just focusing on just the end or just the goal. That what my passion about travelling.
What is your job-search like?
Firstly, I do some networking. I recognize that this is one of the best usage of networking, as my friends, professors or some relatives may have some good job position to recommend. I try to be open and generous when I ask for their advice and suggestions.
And then, I have kept a habit of making a written schedule for each day. I give samples of daily, weekly and monthly search schedules in my book because they reveal what you’re doing and how much time you’re spending on each activity. The categories I include are: Internet search time, networking e-mails and calls, researching companies of interest, looking for professional meetings. These activities can be interesting.
Tell me about a time you failed.
(短版)
One of my biggest failure was my serious injury of my knee in a basketball game because I am anxious to get on the court without any warming-up. I had a surgery and not only my study fell behind at that time but also my athletic ability weaken. I came to know in the hospital when I lay on bed that Haste Makes Waste. Whatever we do, we need to prepare well, just as enough warming-up before the game, otherwise counteraction appears.
Share your experience of solving an difficulty
I learn quickly and act efficiently when I am going to solve a difficulty. One experience I have is that I have tried every effort to improve my business communication and negotiation skill in the past 12 months. In my internship experience in NIELSEN, I found that my managerial communication skill was not under my own satisfaction and I was determined to take actions to improve it. Once I found out my weakness, I acted quickly and efficiently. I knew that it takes time to develop the habit of taking action to practice this skill. I decided to start small and ensured that don’t let my fear of failure or self-doubt stop me from taking action. I have kept the habit, which is to read and speak Harvard Business Case 30 minutes every day. And I came to understand that the best way to overcome fear and self-doubt is to take action. So I decided to participate the Business Negotiation Competition at the university and attended the Oral Business English Practice Buddy Plan which is held by the Student Union. I am a quick-learner and I have witnessed my own improvement day by day. Right now, my business communication and negotiation skill has improved pretty much.
Please provide any example in daily life that shows your commercial awareness
Commercial awareness is certainly about my awareness or understanding of the commercial world. For example, in my daily life, I’d love to discover deep of a question that how can we generate profit or even more profit. Once my friend said that he found the apple peel is hard to eat and to clean. Some friend answer that we can have a bite on the apple and then spit the peel, some others said that we can just pare the apples. And I would like to answer, that where the commercial opportunity exist, we can invent a tool for paring the apples quicker and then sell them to the ones who do not want to eat apple peel.
What other jobs did you apply for?/What other career options are you considering?
I’ve applied for some IT or internet company like Amazon, Tencent, Alibaba. There is some similarity of working in IT company and the information service consulting company, because we need to deal with various kind of information flow and help the client or users to be more efficient improve the products or process performance. As refers to consulting company, so far I only applied for AlphaSights. Because I always believe that this young, fast-growing company could help me to explore my potential to the largest extent. Hope that I can have the opportunity to stand out and being shortlisted in the next round interview.
What book are you reading recently?
Recently, I am reading a book named-Steve Jobs. This is a biography written based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years. I felt my eyes wet when I read his stories, about how Mr. Jobs was able to overcome the challenges in life. These are challenges that I, you, and a lot of us will never encountered. Steve Jobs’s braveness and persistence pay off. The power of his dream had defeated illness, unfairness and death. He continued to love his career even after being diagnosed cancer, and used his power and strengths to change the world by changing how all of us see it. I am moved.
Tell us about a recent news story and how it interested you?
Let me share with you a piece of interesting news I heard last weekend. Last Friday a guy went to a bank in New York and tried to rob it. Actually I think he was kind of a nice guy but unfortunately lost everything due to his financial crisis. The only thing he has is debt. So he decided to rob.
But the problem is that he did not have a gun. So this guy just took a banana and put it in his pocket. He thought that he could fool the banks tellers. Then he entered the bank, and pulled out his gun, I mean banana, and shout: give me the money. And then the police said, wow, nowadays the banana sellers come directly into the bank to sell! Good service!
The news was interesting but finally the guy got caught. I was actually sad.
Give us an example of your leadership;
In China Mobile as an intern, because of my previous excellent performance in a project, I was appointed as the team leader in the other project. At the beginning of the second project, I built a team by choosing eight people who possessed various advantages in different aspects and assigned tasks to them accordingly. I made a clear division of work and the individual responsibilities. I also serve as a communicator and the coordinator, closely listen to my group members’ concerns. We successfully do the research work, analyzed the user’s requirements and found out the problems in the data services market operation and made amendment accordingly. This experience of being a team leader further clarify my ideas of management. A good leader should respect every member and share the accomplishments with them.
what makes a successful consulting company /What three things you would you like to learn next year in your career? (加 上 how to)
First, good Client satisfaction.
