@翻了个译,MTI专业辅导@翻了个译,MTI专业辅导So,I'mafraid.Rightnow,onthisstage,Ifeelfear.Inmylife,Iain'tmetmanypeoplethatwillreadilyadmitwhentheyareafraid.AndIthinkthat'sbecausedeepdown,theyknowhoweasyitspreads.See,fearislikeadisease.Whenitmoves,itmoveslikewildfire.Butwhathappenswhen,eveninthefaceofthatfear,youdowhatyou'vegottodo?That'scalledcourage.Andjustlikefear,courageiscontagious.See,I'mfromEastSt.Louis,Illinois.That'sasmallcityacrosstheMississippiRiverfromSt.Louis,Missouri.IhavelivedinandaroundSt.Louismyentirelife.WhenMichaelBrown,Jr.,anordinaryteenager,wasgunneddownbypolicein2014inFerguson,Missouri--anothersuburb,butnorthofSt.Louis--Irememberthinking,heain'tthefirst,andhewon'tbethelastyoungkidtolosehislifetolawenforcement.Butsee,hisdeathwasdifferent.WhenMikewaskilled,Irememberthepowersthatbetryingtousefearasaweapon.Thepoliceresponsetoacommunityinmourningwastouseforcetoimposefear:fearofmilitarizedpolice,imprisonment,fines.Themediaeventriedtomakeusafraidofeachotherbythewaytheyspunthestory.Andallofthesethingshaveworkedinthepast.ButlikeIsaid,thistimeitwasdifferent.MichaelBrown'sdeathandthesubsequenttreatmentofthecommunityledtoastringofprotestsinandaroundFergusonandSt.Louis.WhenIgotouttothoseprotestsaboutthefourthorfifthday,itwasnotoutofcourage;itwasoutofguilt.See,I'mblack.Idon'tknowify'allnoticedthat.ButIcouldn'tsitinSt.Louis,minutesawayfromFerguson,andnotgosee.SoIgotoffmyasstogocheckitout.WhenIgotoutthere,Ifoundsomethingsurprising.Ifoundanger;therewasalotofthat.ButwhatIfoundmoreofwaslove.Peoplewithloveforthemselves.Lovefortheircommunity.Anditwasbeautiful--untilthepoliceshowedup.Thenanewemotionwasinterjectedintotheconversation:fear.Now,I'mnotgoingtolie;whenIsawthosearmoredvehicles,andallthatgearandallthosegunsandallthosepoliceIwasterrified--personally.AndwhenIlookedaroundthatcrowd,Isawalotofpeoplethathadthesamethinggoingon.ButIalsosawpeoplewithsomethingelseinsideofthem.Thatwascourage.See,thosepeopleyelled,andtheyscreamed,andtheywerenotabouttobackdownfromthepolice.Theywerepastthatpoint.AndthenIcouldfeelsomethinginmechanging,soIyelledandIscreamed,andInoticedthateverybodyaroundmewasdoingthesamething.Andtherewasnothinglikethatfeeling.SoIdecidedIwantedtodosomethingmore.Iwenthome,Ithought:I'manartist.Imakeshit.SoIstartedmakingthingsspecifictotheprotest,thingsthatwouldbeweaponsinaspiritualwar,thingsthatwouldgivepeoplevoiceandthingsthatwouldfortifythemfortheroadahead.IdidaprojectwhereItookpicturesofthehandsofprotestersandputthemupanddowntheboarded-upbuildingsandcommunityshops.Mygoalwastoraiseawarenessandtoraisethemorale.AndIthink,foraminuteatleast,itdidjustthat.ThenIthought,IwanttoupliftthestoriesofthesepeopleIwaswatchingbeingcourageousinthemoment.Andmyselfandmyfriend,andfilmmakerandpartnerSabaahFolayandidjustthatwithourdocumentary,"WhoseStreets?"
