Su Yiming, who made history for China by winning the snowboard men’s slope style silver and the snowboard men’s big air gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, celebrated his 18th birthday on Friday. Su said his birthday wish came true when he won the big air gold. “I had been hoping to win a Winter Olympic gold before turning 18 for years as the most precious gift for my birthday,” he added.
Su was spotted hugging his coach and crying hard after winning the big air gold. “I said ‘I did it’ back then. It has always been a big dream of me and my coach Sato to win the gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics,” Su said. “We have been thinking about it every day for the past four years. Only we know how much we have done and sacrificed for the title, and how many difficulties we had to overcome in order to refine my tricks. That’s why when I finally won the gold he’s the first one I want to share my joy with. I was so excited. We both did it.”
Su began snowboarding when he was four years old. His first snowboard came from his father and Su almost fell in love with the sport immediately.

No matter how long I train, even for seven or eight hours in a row, it’s a joy to me. The only difference between a professional and an amateur is that I must invest more time and efforts in doing what I love. Love is what has been supporting me all the time.”
“I want to tell teenage snowboarders the most important thing is to chase your love,” Su added. “But you must do it step by step when you try new tricks and make progress when you are completely safe. That’s how you enjoy the fun of snowboarding.”

In early April, a United Nations climate group released a 3,000 page report on climate change. The report details actions that must be taken quickly to avoid the worst effects of the crisis. As one of the report’s authors put it, “It’s now or never.”
One of the most striking parts of the new UN report is that in order to limit global warming to 1.5ºC, global emissions can’t go any higher after 2025, and must drop steeply by 2030. That gives governments just a few years to take strong action.
If the world continues at current pollution levels, the Earth is likely to heat to 3.2 ºC — more than twice the goal of 1.5 ºC. As UN leader António Guterres said, “We are on a fast-track to a climate disaster.”
But the UN report also offered good news: we know what we have to do to avoid a climate disaster. Most of the green technologies needed for renewable power, such as wind, solar, and water power, already exist, and are getting cheaper.
Governments just need to switch over and use far more of them. The UN report suggested that any new money spent trying to develop fossil fuel sources now is likely to be wasted.
Another important message from the new report is that simply cutting pollution won’t be enough. The polluting gas carbon dioxide must also be removed from the atmosphere and stored. Since trees already do this, protecting natural areas and planting more trees will be an important part of the solution. But scientists will also need to develop and improve methods of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it.
For the first time, the report points out that the choices of individual people can make a big difference in greenhouse gas emissions, when they are part of a larger movement of people doing similar things. And choices that help include: not wasting food and eating less meat, walking or biking instead of driving, cutting out plane travel, and using less energy.
28. Why does the author quote “It’s now or never” in the first paragraph?
A. To explain a concept. B. To make a comparison.
C. To present a natural law. D. To stress an urgent situation.
29. What will it cause if pollution continues at current levels according to António Guterres?
A. A climate disaster. B. A colder earth.
C. Worldwide hunger. D. Extreme weather.
30. What does the underlined phrase“good news”in the fourth paragraph refer to?
A. Green technologies are readily available.
B. More trees are being planted in the world.
C. Fossil fuel sources development has been banned.
D. Carbon dioxide can be removed from the atmosphere.
31. What message does the report want to convey in the last paragraph?
A. It is high time that we should change our eating habits.
B. Green campaigns should be organized across the world.
C. Driving can greatly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
D. Individual actions count in the fight against global warming.

There may be nothing more self-defining than our tastes. Whether in food, wine or, romantic partners our tastes represent our identity. So it made sense to me that my likes and dislikes were formed through careful consideration and wise decision-making — that is, through choices where I exercised some control.
Then in my research at the Indiana University School of Medicine, I observed how the single-celled T. gondii parasite (寄生虫) can change the behavior of the host it infects. It can make rats unafraid of cats, and some studies show that it may cause personality changes in humans.
These studies made me wonder if there are other things happening that could be shaping who we are, programming our likes and dislikes. As I dug into the scientific literature, I hit upon this astonishing and unsettling truth: Our actions are governed by hidden biological forces — which is to say that we have little or no control over our personal tastes. Our behaviors and preferences are profoundly influenced by our genes, our germs (微生物) and our environment. We are just meat robots under the influence of unseen forces.
Crazy talk, isn’t it?
Several years ago I would have agreed. But after being grilled at too many cookouts as to why I don’t like many of the vegetables that most people find enjoyable, I felt like something was wrong with me. I am green with envy watching people willingly eat things like broccoli (西兰花), because if someone tries to pass it to me, my body draws back in fear. Why don’t I enjoy broccoli?
I wasn’t choosing to hate these vegetables, so I set out to learn what could explain my dislike. Luckily, science was on the case. Researchers have found that about 25 percent of people might hate broccoli for the same reason I do. These people — my people — are called supertasters. We have variations in genes that build our taste bud receptors (味蕾接受器). One of those genes, TAS2R38, recognizes bitter chemicals like thioureas, which are plentiful in broccoli. My DNA gives me taste bud receptors that register substances containing thiourea as extremely bitter. This may be DNA’s way of preventing me from eating harmful plants.
32. What does the author find about our personal tastes?
A. They are powerful.
B. They keep changing.
C. They can be misleading.
D. They are beyond our control.
33. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “grilled” in Paragraph 5?
A. Ignored. B. Forgiven. C. Questioned. D. Misunderstood.
34. What is special about supertasters according to the last paragraph?
A. They enjoy bitter food.
B. They carry Gene TAS2R38.
C. They tend to be more sensitive.
D. They are born with perfect DNA.
35. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Are We Cheated by Our Tastes?
B. Why Do You Like What You Like?
C. How Do We Benefit from Our Genes?
D. Can Environment Change Our Personalities?

Most of us know that water is vital for us to consume. 36 So how do you ensure you’re getting enough water?
The simplest way is to set a goal of how much water you want to drink every day. The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommend drinking 2 litres of water per day for men, and 1.6 litres per day for women. 37
But how do you measure how much water you’re drinking? Get yourself a water bottle of a certain size and you’ll know how many bottles of water to drink every day to hit the target. You can use a 1 litre bottle and get through two of them a day. For other people, a large amount of water like that seems too much. 38 In this way they can keep track of how many times they’ve drunk a full bottle.
39 A great way to get around that is to simply make it tastier. Either use some sugar-free juice to give it some flavor, or add some cut-up fruit like a lemon or orange for a refreshing drink.
If you’re finding it tough to remember, an easy way to keep it in mind is to start wearing a bandage, new piece of jewelry, or band around your wrist to help you remember, and every time you see it you’ll remind yourself to drink more water. 40 Set an alarm for every hour during the day. Every time your alarm goes off, fill up the glass, and drink it.
A. There are two ways you can use.
B. Instead, they prefer a bottle of 200-300 ml.
C. You can also force yourself to get reminded.
D. Breaking up bigger goals into smaller pieces can work very well.
E. Just setting that as a target can
