InterpersonalcontagionmechanismofsafetyviolationswithdualpropagationpathLIULin1,2,MEIQiang2,WUJinnan3,LIUSuxia2(1SchoolofManagementScienceandEngineering,AnhuiUniversityofTechnology,Ma’anshan243032,Anhui,China;2SchoolofManagement,JiangsuUniversity,Zhenjiang212013,Jiangsu,China;3SchoolofBusiness,AnhuiUniversityofTechnology,Ma’anshan243032,Anhui,China)Abstract:Employeesafetyviolationhasbeenwelldemonstratedasoneoftherootcausesoforganizationalsafetyaccidentsandinjuries.Althoughanextensiveliteraturehasrevealedtheindividualandorganizationalantecedentsofsafetyviolations,littleisknownabouthowtheinterpersonalcontagionofsafetyviolationsoccurswithinorganizations.Thus,thepresentpaperaimstonarrowthistheoreticalgapinsafetybehaviorliteraturebyrevealingtheunderlyingmechanismthroughwhichinterpersonalcontagionofsafetyviolationshappens.Basedonsociallearningtheoryandgeneraldeterrencetheory,amechanisticmodelwasdevelopedforunderstandinginterpersonalcontagionofsafetyviolationsfromthedualpropagationpathofbothrationalcognition(i.e.,perceivedpunishmentcertaintyandperceivedpunishmentseverity)andemotionalexperience(i.e.,perceivedshamecertaintyandperceivedshameseverity).Usingthecoworkersafetyviolationscale,theperceivedpunishmentcertaintyandseverityscale,theperceivedshamecertaintyandseverityscale,andthefocalemployeesafetyviolationscale,thispaperconductedatwo-stageonlinesurveyon353front-lineemployeesinhigh-riskindustriestoavoidthecommonmethoddeviationsandthenanalyzedthisdatasetwithSPSS,Mplus,andPROCESSmacro.Themultiplehierarchicalregressionresultsindicatethatcoworkers’safetyviolationspositivelycorrelateswithfocalemployees’safetyviolations,whichvalidatestheinterpersonalcontagionofsafetyviolationwithinorganizations.Beforetestingthemediationhypotheses,theconfirmatoryfactoranalysiswasusedtodeterminetheoptimalmodelbycomparingthefitindexesandBayesianinformationcriterionofthehypotheticalmodel,nestedmodel,andalternativemodel.Then,themediationhypotheseswer...
