2018 is going to be a great wildlife-watching year, and to help make it so weve recruited The One Show favourite,wMike Dilger,to share his insight into the best approaches in a range of different scenarios. The series kicks off with a visit to an estuary(p14),a great place to enjoy masses of wading birds probing the mud on a crisp winters day.I recently made a trip to RSPB Snettisham in north Norfolk, very early on a morning when the tide was due to be a high one.The pre-dawn start from our friends house was rewarded by the sight of thousands of knot, and an almost equal number of oystercatchers, huddling together on the fast-disappearing estuarine mud.Eventually they lifted in great grey, blackand white clouds to seek a roosting point behind the sea wall.We stayed for an hour or two admiring the birds, but as we hadnt equipped ourselves with a hot drink,as recommended by Mike,we retreated for a warming breakfast!Welcome.ContributorsSheena Harvey Editor
