electrotcchnical committees(IEC National Committees).The object of the IEC is to promoteinternational co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields.Tothis end and in addition to other activities,the IEC publishes International Standards.Their preparation isentrusted to technical committees:any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with mayparticipate in this preparatory work.International,governmental and non-governmental organizations liaisingwith the IEC also participate in this preparation.The IEC collaborates closely with the international Organizationfor Standardization(ISO)in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the twoorganizations.2)The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express.as nearly as possible.aninternational consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representationfrom all interested Nat:onal Committees.3)The documents produced have the form of recommendations for international use and are published in the formof standards.technical reports or guides and they are accepted by the National Committees in that sense.4)In order to promote international unification,IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC internationalStandards transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standards.Anydivergence between the IEC Standard and the corresponding national or regional standard shall be clearlyindicated in the latter.5)The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for anyequipment declared to be in conformity with one of its standards.6)Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the of powercables with extruded solid insulation from 6 kV up to 30 kV for fixed installations such asdistribution networks or industrial installations.Cables for special installation and service conditions are not included,for example cables foroverhead networks,the mining industry,nuclear power plants(in and around the containmentarea).submarine use or shipboard application.2 Normative Definitions of dimensional values(thicknesses,cross-sections,etc.)3.1.1 nominal value:Value by which a quantity is designated and which is often used intables.Usually,in this standard,nominal values give rise to values to be checked bymeasurements taking into account specified tolerances.3.1.2 approximate value:Value which is neither guaranteed nor checked;it is used,forexample,for the calculation of other dimensional values.3.1.3 median value:When several test results have been obtained and ordered in anincreasing(or decreasing)succession,the median value is the middle value if the number ofavailable values is odd,and the mean of the two middle values if the number is even.3.1.4 fictitious value:Value calculated according to the fictitious methoddescribed inannex A.3.2 Definitions concerning the tests3.2.1 routine tests:Tests made by the manufacturer on each manufactured length of cableto check that each length meets the specified requirements.
