IEC(Intemational Electrotechnical Commission)is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising allnational electrotechnical committees(IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote intemationalcooperation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and inaddition to other activities, the iEC publishes intenational Standards.Their preparation is entrusted to technicalcommittees;any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work.Intermational, govemmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in thispreparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization(ISO)in accordancewith conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.2)The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express,as nearly as possible,an intemationalconsensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interestedNational Committees.3)The documents produced have the form of recommendations for intemational use and are published in the form ofstandards, technical reports or guides and they are accepted by the National Committees in that sense.4)In order to promote intemational unification,IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Intemational Standardstransparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional standards.Any divergence between the IECStandard and the corresponding national or regional standard shal be clearly indicated in the latter.5)The IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any equipmentdeclared to be in conformity with one of its standards.6)Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this Intemational Standard may be the subject ofpatent rights. The IEC shall not be neld reponsible for identifying any or all of such patent rights.International Standard IEC 60598-2-3 has been prepared by subcommittee 34D:Luminaires,ofIEC technical committee 34:Lamps and related equipment. This consolidated version of IEC 60598-2-3 is based on the second edition of IEC 60598-2-3,pu-blished in 1993,and its Amendment 1(1997).It bears the edition number 2.1.This consolidation is based on the second edition and on documents 34D/432/FDIS and34D/449/RVD.A vertical line in the margin shows the texts amended by amendment 1.This publication shall be read in conjunction with IEC 60598-1:Luminaires-Part 1:Generalrequirements and tests.60598-2-31EC:1993+A.1:1997-93.5 MarkingThe provisions of Section Three of IEC 60598-1 apply. In addition, the following information shallbe provided in the instruction leaflet supplied with the luminaire.1)Design attitude(normal operating position)2)Weight including control gear if any.3)Overall dimensions4)If intended for mounting more than 8 m above ground level, the maximum projected areasupjected to wind force, see 3.6.3.1.5)The range of cross-sectional areas of suspension wires suitable for the luminaire.if applicable.6)Suitability for use indoors provided the 10 C.allowed for the effects of natural air move-ment.has not been deducted from measured temperature(see 3.12.1).3.6 ConstructionThe provisions of Section Four of IEC 60598-1 apply together with the requirements of 3.6.1t03.6.5.3.6.1 Road and street lighting luminaires shall have protection against ingress of moisture of atleast IPX3.3.6.2 Luminaires for suspension on span wires shall be fitted with clamping devices for thispurpose and the range of span wire sizes for which the clamping devices are suitable shall bestated in the instruction leaflet supplied with the luminaire. The device shall clamp the span wire toprevent movement of the luminaire with respect to the span wire. The suspension devices shall not damage the span wire during installation and during normal useof the luminaire.Compliance shall be checked by inspection after fitting the luminaire to the smaliest and largestspan wires in the range stated by the luminaire manufacturer.NOTE-Care snould be taken to avod electrolyuc coroson between the clamping device and span wire.3.6.3 The means for attaching the luminaire to its support shall be appropriate to the weight ofthe luminaire. The connection shall be designed to withstand wind speeds of 150 km/h on theprojected surface of the assembly without undue deflection.Fixings which carry the weight of the luminaire and internal accessories shall be provided withmeans to prevent the disiodgement of any part of the luminaire by vibration, either in service orduring maintenance.Parts of luminaires which are fixed other than with at least two devices, for example, screws orequivalent means of sufficient strength, shall have such extra protection as to prevent those partsfalling and endangering persons, animals and surroundings, should a fixing device fail undernormal conditions.
