Designation:F244705(Reapproved 2009)Standard Practice forProduction Acceptance Test Procedures for Weight-Shift-Control Aircraft1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F2447;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 The following requirements apply for the manufactureof weight-shift-control aircraft. This practice includes theproduction acceptance test requirements for weight-shift-control aircraft.1.2 This practice applies to aircraft seeking civil aviationauthority approval,in the form of flight certificates, flightpermits,or other like documentation.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory requirements prior to use.2.Significance and Use2.1 The purpose of this practice is to establish that eachproduction aircraft has been assembled properly and operatesnormally throughout its entire allowable flight envelope.2.2 If final assembly is completed outside of the mainproduction facility, the manufacturer shall specify the requiredprocedures and what persons are authorized to perform them.3.Production Acceptance Testing,Ground Testing3.1 Inspection VerificationThere shall be a written proce-dure in effect to verify all top-level inspections have beencompleted and no discrepancies remain open.3.2 Engine Break-InThere shall be a written procedure ineffect to perform the engine break-in.This procedure mayinclude all engine gage verification of operation. All enginereadings shall achieve the normal accepted range of readingscommensurate with a new engine. If it is not performed duringengine break-in,then this verification must be performed underseparate procedures. All engine gages shall be verified to beoperating.Final stages of engine break-in may be conducted inflight if a forced landing can be made safely at all times.4.Production Acceptance Testing,Flight Testing4.1 Every production aircraft shall be flight tested to thefollowing minimums:4.1.1 Fifteen minutes flight time, including at least onetakeoff and landing, trimming of controls for straight and levelflight, and verification of control for left turn, right turn, andspeed control.Turns shall be made up to the maximumallowable bank angle as prescribed by the manufacturer andspeeds(wings level)shall be flown up to the maximumpossible for the configuration not to exceed manufacturerslimitations.4.2 Instrument VerificationThere shall be a written proce-dure in effect to verify that all other instruments are operatingwithin normal ranges. If equipped with a compass, the compassvariation card data shall be developed with the engine running.5.Post Flight Acceptance5.1 There shall be a written procedure in effect to performpost flight inspection that will review all flight critical attach-ments and structures.5.2 The reviewing personnel shall sign all post flight reviewdocuments.6.Documentation6.1 There shall be a written procedure in effect to properlydocument and store the Production Acceptance Test resultssuch that they are correlated to the specific aircraft for futurereference.6.2 Test FailuresThere shall be a written procedure ineffect to review the causes for any aircraft failures in theProduction Acceptance Tests phases.Aircraft may only bereleased for retest after manufacturing review of the discrepantarticles and written release for retest.7.Keywords7.1 light sport aircraft;special airworthiness certificate;weight-shift-control1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F37 on Light SportAircraft and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F37.40 on Weight Shift.Current edition approved July 1,2009.Published September 2009.Originallyapproved in 2005.Last previous edition approved in 2007 as F2447 05(2007).DOI:10.1520/F2447-05R09.Copyright ASTM International,100 Barr Harbor Drive,PO Box C700,West Conshohocken,PA 19428-2959.United States1 ASTM International takes no position respecting the validity of any patent rights asserted in connection with any item mentionedin this standard.Users of this standard are expressly advised that determination of the validity of any such patent rights, and the riskof infringement of such rights, are entirely their own responsibility. This standard is subject to revision at any time by the responsible technical committee and must be reviewed every five years andif not revised, either reapproved or withdrawn.Your comments are invited either for revision of this standard or for additional standardsand should be addressed to ASTM International Headquarters.Your comments will receive careful consideration at a meeting of theresponsible techn
