Designation:F236804(Reapproved 2010)Standard Specification forLabeling for Wet Mops for Consumer and Institutional Use1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F2368;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification establishes uniform labeling criteriaand package requirements for wet mops for household andinstitutional use. This standard does not apply to dry mops(thatis, dust mops).1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory requirements prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2D629 Test Methods for Quantitative Analysis of Textiles3.Significance and Use3.1 Information on the wording of the labels that appear onthe wet mops will help to ensure that accurate information onmaterial content is presented to the consumer.4.Terminology4.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:4.1.1 cottonvirgin or reprocessed natural cotton fiber.4.1.2 filament yarnstrand formed from multiple,continu-ous lengths of man-made fibers.4.1.3 rayonman-made fiber extruded from regeneratedcellulose.4.1.4 spun yarnstrand formed from multiple, discretelengths of man-made or natural fibers,or both.4.1.5 syntheticman-made fiber extruded from long-chainpolymers(that is,polyester,nylon,polypropylene).4.1.6 wet mopa mop constructed from strands or strips oftextile material(which could include spun yarn, filament yarn,non-woven fabric, and strips of knitted or woven fabric)designed for wet mopping.5.Classification5.1 Mops shall be classified and labeled according tomaterial content:5.1.1 Cotton MopContent is 80%or more cotton.5.1.2 Rayon MopConstructed with yarn composed of100%man-made fibers with a minimum 50%of the fibercontent composed of rayon fibers.5.1.3 Blend MopContent is a mixture of cotton, rayon andsynthetic fibers where the cotton content is less than 80%andthe rayon content is less than 50%.5.1.4 Synthetic MopContent is 100%man-made fibers.6.Requirements6.1 General:6.1.1 The required label shall be intact and on the mop orincluded with the printed packaging for each individual mop atthe time it is sold.6.1.2 If attached to the mop,the label shall be located in anarea generally not in contact with the surface to be cleaned.6.1.3 The label, when placed on the container, shall notthereafter be covered, obstructed,or removed by distributors orretailers.6.1.4 The true weight in ounces shall appear on every moplabel. The actual weight,as determined by Testing Procedure7.2.1,shall not be more than one ounce lower than the statedweight.6.1.5 The classification as defined in Section 5 shall appearon every mop label(that is,“cotton,”“rayon,”“blend,”or“synthetic”mop).6.1.6 Products complying with all the requirements of thisprovisional standard shall include“Meets ASTM F2368”orequivalent.6.1.7 There is no specified label format, only the informa-tion defined above is required.7.Testing Procedures7.1 Blend Classification:1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F15 onConsumer Products and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F15.54 onBrooms and Mops.Current edition approved Sept.1,2010.Published December 2010.Originallyapproved in 2004.Last previous edition approved in 2004 as F2368 04.DOI:10.1520/F2368-04R10.2For referenced ASTM standards, visit the ASTM website,www.astm.org,orcontact ASTM Customer Service at serviceastm.org.For Annual Book of ASTMStandards volume information, refer to the standards Document Summary page onthe ASTM website.Copyright ASTM International,100 Barr Harbor Drive,PO Box C700,West Conshohocken,PA 19428-2959.United States1 7.1.1 In order to determine the classification of a mopregarding fiber blend content,a quantitative chemical analysismust be performed on a sample of mop strands.7.1.2 Use Test Methods D629 or equivalent.7.1.3 Three separate lots,or strands of the mop, shall betested individually.7.1.4 Fiber content testing for classification purposes willconsist of three test lots.Classification will be determinedusing the average fiber content analysis for the three samplelots.Recognizing the inherent variability in fibers used in mopyarn, namely textile by-products,a tolerance of 10%variationwill be allowable in determining the classification of thesubject mop.7.2 Mop Weight Requirement:7.2.1 Mops shall be weighed on a scale with demonstratedrepeated accuracy of 0.10 oz.7.2.2 For mops that are detached from the handle or stick, the weight shall include the en
