fixed designation F608;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of originaladoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.Anumber in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method covers only a laboratory test fordetermining the relative carpet dirt removal effectiveness ofhousehold/commercial vacuum cleaners when tested underspecified conditions.1.2 This test method is applicable to household/commercialtypes of upright,canister,and combination cleaners.1.3 The test method applies to embedded dirt removal fromcarpets,not the removal of surface litter and debris.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard.The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety,health,and environmental practices and deter-mine the only cosmetic or nonfunctional differences.3.1.2 population,nthe total of all units of a particularmodel vacuum cleaner being tested.3.1.3 repeatability limit,rthe value below which theabsolute difference between two individual test results obtainedunder repeatability condition may be expected to occur with aprobability of approximately 0.95(95%).3.1.4 repeatability standard deviation,Srthe standard de-viation of test results obtained under repeatability conditions.3.1.5 reproducibility limit,Rthe value below which theabsolute difference between two test results obtained underreproducibility conditions may be expected to occur with aprobability of approximately 0.95(95%).3.1.6 reproducibility standard deviation,SRthe standarddeviation of test results obtained under
