Designation:F212606(Reapproved 2018)An American National StandardStandard Test Method forTreestand Static Load Capacity1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F2126;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of the staticload capacity of treestands in terms of a factor of safety relativeto the manufacturers rated capacity.1.2 The values stated are in inch-pound units and are to beregarded as the standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety, health, and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade(TBT)Committee.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM backbar or V-baradjustable component of a climb-ing treestand or handclimber that engages the tree to providesupport. The backbar may be rigid or flexible.3.2.2 climbing stickdevice used to assist climbing a treeprimarily to a fixed position treestand.A structure that issecured to the tree and allows the user to support his weightand climb to the desired height on the tree.3.2.3 climbing treestandtreestand that provides both themeans to ascend the tree, and allow the user to remain at adesired elevation.3.2.4 handclimber,or climbing aiddevice to assist climb-ing with a climbing treestand.A structure that allows the userto support his weight when lifting a climbing treestand with hislegs.3.2.5 ladder treestandtreestand that is secured to the treeat the elevation where the platform is located.(The laddertreestand may be secured to the tree at other locations and hassteps that are used to reach the platform or hunting position.)3.2.6 non-climbing,fixed position or hang-on treestandtreestand that is secured to the tree at the elevation where it isused.(The user usually ascends the tree by some means andthen lifts the treestand to the desired position and secures it foruse.)3.2.7 platformhorizontal structural area of a treestand onwhich the user stands and/or places his feet.3.2.8 treestanddevice designed to be affixed to a tree or itsbranches so as to permit an individual to sit or stand thereon forthe purpose of attaining an elevated position from which toobserve, photograph or hunt.3.2.9 tripod or tower standtripod or tower stand is con-structed to be self-supporting and is not required to be securedto a tree.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 A climbing treestand is mounted so that its platform isperpendicular or slightly above horizontal to a rigid wood ormetal pole when the rated load is applied parallel to themounting pole.A fixed position or ladder treestand shall bemounted with the platform perpendicular to the mounting pole.A tripod stand shall be positioned so that the platform isperpendicular to the application of the load.A climbing stickshall be mounted such that the steps are perpendicular to thepole. The platform is equipped with deflection measurementdevices. The load is applied step-wise and recordings are madeof the load and deflection at each step until yielding orpermanent deflection occurs or until twice the rated load isapplied. The ladder, tripod and climbing sticks do not requiredeflection measurements be taken.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F08 on SportsEquipment,Playing Surfaces, and Facilities and is the direct responsibility ofSubcommittee F08.18 on Treestands.Current edition approved Oct.1,2018.Published November 2018.Originallyapproved in 2001.Last previous edition approved in
