Designation:F1802−04(Reapproved2010)StandardTestMethodforPerformanceTestingofExcessFlowValves1ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1802;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(´)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.1.Scope1.1Thistestmethodcoversastandardizedmethodtodeterminetheperformanceofexcessflowvalves(EFVs)designedtolimitfloworstopflowinthermoplasticnaturalgasservicelines.21.2Alltestsareintendedtobeperformedusingairasthetestfluid.Unlessotherwisestated,allflowratesarereportedinstandardcubicfeetperhourof0.6relativedensitynaturalgas.1.3ThetestmethodrecognizestwotypesofEFV.Onetype,anexcessflowvalve-bypass(EFVB),allowsasmallamountofgastobleedthrough(bypass)afterithastripped,usuallyasameansofautomaticallyresettingthedevice.Thesecondtype,anexcessflowvalve-nonbypass(EFVNB),isintendedtotripshutforminganessentiallygastightseal.1.4Theperformancecharacteristicscoveredinthistestmethodincludeflowattrippoint,pressuredropacrosstheEFV,bypassflowrateoftheEFVBorleakratethroughtheEFVNBaftertrip,andverificationthattheEFVcanbereset.1.4.1Gasdistributionsystemsmaycontaincondensatesandparticulatessuchasorganicmatter,sand,dirt,andironcom-pounds.Fieldexperiencehasshownthattheoperatingcharac-teristicsofsomeEFVsmaybeaffectedbyaccumulationsofthesematerials.ThetestsofSection11weredevelopedtoprovideasimple,inexpensive,reproducibletestthatquantifiestheeffect,ifany,ofauniformcoatingofkeroseneandofkerosenecontaminatedwithaspecifiedamountofferricoxidepowderonanEFV’soperatingcharacteristics.1.5Excessflowvalvescoveredbythistestmethodwillnormallyhavethefollowingcharacteristics:apressureratingofupto125psig(0.86MPa);atripflowofbetween200and2500ft3/h(5.66and70.8m3/h)at10psig(0.07MPa);aminimumtemperatureratingof0°F(–18°C),andamaximumtemperatureratingof100°F(38°C).1.6TheEFVscoveredbythistestmethodshallbecon-stru...
