Designation:F244604(Reapproved 2010)An American National StandardStandard Classification forHierarchy of Equipment Identifiers and Boundaries forReliability,Availability, and Maintainability(RAM)Performance Data Exchange1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F2446;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This classification is to serve as an international stan-dard for marine equipment nomenclature,taxonomy,hierarchi-cal data structure, unique identifiers, and boundary definitionfor the consistent acquisition and exchange of equipment RAMperformance data. The standard addresses the classification ofmechanical and software products.1.2 RAM in an acronym for Reliability,Availability,&Maintainability where:1.2.1 Reliability is the probability that an item can performa required function under given conditions for a given timeinterval(t1,t2).It is generally assumed that the item is in astate to perform this required function at the beginning of thetime interval.1.2.2 Availability is the probability that an item is in a stateto perform a required function under given conditions at agiven instant of time, assuming that the required externalresources are provided.1.2.3 Maintainability is the probability that a given activemaintenance action, for an item under given conditions of usecan be carried out within a stated time interval, when themaintenance is performed under stated conditions and usingstated procedures and resources.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory requirements prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ISO Standards:2ISO 3166-1:1997,Codes for the Representation of Namesof Countries and Their SubdivisionsPart understandingof which components are to be included within a specific item.3.1.2 classa concept to group objects with similarcharacteristics, with the purpose of describing common prop-erties.3.1.2.1 DiscussionThe ISO 10303 definition of a class is“a concept to group items with similar characteristics, with thepurpose of describing the common properties of the classmembers. Each item belongs to at least one class.A classusually has a criterion for inclusion or exclusion of items.”Aclass is only an abstraction that helps the categorization ofobjects.3.1.3 instancethe physical representation of the memberof an object class. For example, the main propulsion dieselengine of vessel XYZ is an instance of the diesel_engine objectclass.3.1.4 objectany item that has properties and fun
