Abstract This paper explores the original charm of Zhu Shenghao's translation strategies and takes Shylock in The Merchant of Venice as an example to express the domestication strategy. Zhu Shenghao is the first person to translate Shakespeare's dramas in China. The purpose of this study is to study Zhu Shenghao's translation strategies used in translating the dialogues of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, to consolidate the learning of of translation strategies. Through the literature analysis method, the writer found that when Zhu Shenghao translated Shylock’s dialogues in The Merchant of Venice, he mainly used the domestication strategy to build the character of Shylock. This study can provide some drama translators, especially Shakespeare’s drama translators with much experience, which can help these translators understand and translate drama well.
