Designation:F119988(Reapproved 2015)An American National StandardStandard Specification forCast(All Temperatures and Pressures)and Welded PipeLine Strainers(150 psig and 150F Maximum)1This standard is issued under the fixed designation F1199;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers all cast strainers and weldedstrainers in services up to 150 psig and 150F(1 MPa and65C).For welded strainers used in services above 150 psigand 150F,see Specification F1200.1.2 This standard provides the minimum requirements forthe design, fabrication, rating, marking, and testing of cast andwelded pipe line strainers for services above 0F(18C).1.3 Strainers manufactured to this specification are accept-able for use in the marine environment.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion,Section 8,of this specification.Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicability of regulatory limita-tions prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2F1200 Specification for Fabricated(Welded)Pipe LineStrainers(Above 150 psig and 150F)2.2 ANSI cleaning andservicing and can be furnished in a wide variety of materials, particle size removal capability, straining area, and types ofconstruction.Interchangeable baskets or elements are normallyavailable for a given make, model, and size strainer.3.1.2 maximum allowable working pressure(MAWP)thehighest internal pressure that the strainer can be subjected to inservice. The maximum nonshock working pressure for which astrainer is rated by the manufacturer.3.1.3 maximum design temperaturethe maximum tem-perature for which a strainer is rated by the manufacturer.3.1.4 strainera device which, when installed in a pipeline, provides a mechanical means of removing solids from aflowing liquid or gas by using a barrier element.3.1.5 straining open areathe net effective open area of theclean element through which the fluid can pass.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F25 on Shipsand Marine Technology and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee follows:4.1.1 SimplexA strainer consisting of a single basket orelement chamber that normally requires the flow through theunit to be shut down before cleaning.4.1.1.1 Classifications of simplex strainers based on portalignment relative to basket or element chamber are Y,T,Z,andothers.4.1.2 Duplex(or Multiplex)A strainer usually consistingof at least two baske
