Designation:B38603(Reapproved 2011)Standard Specification forMolybdenum and Molybdenum Alloy Plate,Sheet,Strip, and Foil1This standard is issued under the fixed designation B386;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers unalloyed molybdenum andmolybdenum alloy plate, sheet, strip, and foil as follows:1.1.1 Molybdenum 360Unalloyed vacuum arc-cast mo-lybdenum.1.1.2 Molybdenum 361Unalloyed powder metallurgy mo-lybdenum.1.1.3 Molybdenum Alloy 363Vacuum arc-cast carbon.1.1.6 Molybdenum Alloy 366Vacuum arc-cast molybde-num-30%tungsten alloy.1.1.7 Drawing GradeA drawing grade is defined, whichmay be specified as a separate requirement by the purchaser.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2E8 Test Methods for Tension Testing of Metallic MaterialsE345 Test Methods of Tension Testing of Metallic FoilE643 Test Method for Ball Punch 13).5.Materials and Manufacture5.1 The various molybdenum mill products covered by thisspecification shall be formed with the conventional extrusion, forging,or rolling equipment normally found in primaryferrous and nonferrous plants. The ingot metal for Molybde-num 360 and 365 and Molybdenum Alloys 363 and 366 isvacuum arc-melted in furnaces of a type suitable for reactive, refractory metals and for Molybdenum 361 and MolybdenumAlloy 364,the metal is consolidated by powder metallurgymethods.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B10 onReactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys and is the direct responsibility ofSubcommittee B10.04 on Molybdenum and Tungsten.Current edition approved June 1,2011.Published June 2011.Originallyapproved in 1991.Last previous edition chemicalcomposition prescribed in Table 2.6.2 Check Analysis:6.2.1 Check analysis is an analysis made by the purchaser orthe manufacturer of the metal after it has been processed intofinished mill forms, and is either for the purpose of verifyingthe composition of a heat or lot or to determine variations in thecomposition within a heat or lot.6.2.2 Check analysis tolerances do not broaden the specifiedheat analysis requirements but cover variations between labo-ratories in the measurement of chemical content.6.2.3 The manufacturer shall not ship material that isoutside the limits specified in Table 2 for the applicable type, with the exception of oxygen and nitrogen, whose percentagemay vary with the method of fabrication.6.2.4
