Designation:A884/A884M19Standard Specification forEpoxy-Coated Steel Wire and Welded Wire Reinforcement1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A884/A884M;the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope*1.1 This specification covers plain and deformed steel wireand plain and deformed steel welded wire reinforcement withprotective epoxy coating.A Class A minimum coating thick-ness is required for wire and welded wire reinforcementintended for use in concrete and masonry.A Class B minimumcoating thickness is required for wire and welded wire rein-forcement intended for use in mechanically stabilized earthapplications.A Type 1 coating is a fusion-bonded epoxycoating that has been formulated to be sufficiently flexible toallow bending of the coated wire or welded wire reinforce-ment.A Type 2 coating is a fusion-bonded epoxy coating thathas not been designed to be sufficiently flexible to allowbending of the coated wire or welded wire reinforcement.NOTE1The coating applicator is identified throughout this specifica-tion as the manufacturer.1.2 This specification is applicable for orders in eitherinch-pound units(as Specification A884)or SI units asSpecification A884M.1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound or SI units are tobe regarded separately as standard.Within the text, the SI unitsare shown in brackets. The values stated in each system maynot be exact equivalents;therefore, each system shall be usedindependently of the other except as specifically noted in Table1.Combining values from the two systems may result innon-conformance with this specification.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety, health, and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5
