Designation:A447/A447M11(Reapproved 2016)Standard Specification forSteel Castings,Chromium-Nickel-Iron Alloy(25-12 Class),for High-Temperature Service1This standard is issued under the fixed designation A447/A447M;the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope*1.1 This specification covers iron-base,heat-resisting alloycastings of the 25%chromium,12%nickel class, intended forstructural elements, containers, and supports in electricfurnaces, petroleum still tube supports, and for similar appli-cations up to 2000F 1095C.1.2 In the absence of significant proportions of elementsother than those prescribed in Section 5,the two types of alloyscovered by this specification may in general be distinguished asfollows:1.2.1 Type IAlloys characterized by relatively low limit-ing creep stress at temperatures between 1500 and 2000F 815and 1095C,and relatively high ductility at ordinary tempera-tures after aging for short periods at temperatures between1300 and 1500F 705 and 815C.1.2.2 Type IIAlloys having relatively high limiting creepstress but which may develop low ductility at ordinary tem-peratures when aged for short periods at temperatures between1350 and 1500F 730 and 815C.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other.Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.3.1 Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2A781/A781M Specification for Castings,Steel and Alloy,Common Requirements, for General Industrial UseA800/A800M Practice for Steel for investment castings, material furnished tothis specification shall conform to the requirements of Speci-fication A781/A781M,including any supplementary require-ments that are indicated in the purchase order.Failure tocomply with the general requirements of Specification A781/A781M constitutes nonconformance with this specification.Incase of conflict between the requirements of this specificationand Specification A781/A781M,this specification shall pre-vail.3.2 Investment castings furnished to this specification shallconform to the requirements of Specification A957,includingany supplementary requirements that are indicated in thepurchase order.Failure to comply with the general require-ments of Specification A957 constitutes nonconformance withthis specification. In the case of conflict between the require-ments of this specification and Specification A957,Specifica-tion A957 shall prevail.4.Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing(dimensional tolerances shall be included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Which standard(A447 or A447M)applies,4.1.3 The version of the alloy,i.e.,Type I or Type II,to besupplied(Sections 1,11,12,13,and 14).4.1.4 Options in the specification(Section 9),and4.1.5 The supplementary requirements desired including thestandards of acceptance.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee A01 on Steel,Stainless Steel and Related Alloys and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeA01.18 on Castings.Current edition approved Sept.1,2016.Published September 2016.Originallyapproved in 1944.Redesignated as A447 in 1961.Last previous edition approved in2011 as A447/A447M 11.DOI:10.1520/A0447_A0447M-11R16.2For
