Designation:C169311(Reapproved 2017)Standard Specification forAutoclaved Aerated Concrete(AAC)1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C1693;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers autoclaved aerated concrete(AAC),a cementitious product based on calcium silicatehydrates in which low density is attained by the inclusion of anagent resulting in macroscopic voids, and in which curing iscarried out using high-pressure steam.1.2 The raw materials used in the production of autoclavedaerated concrete are portland cement or blended cements, quartz sand, water, lime, gypsum or anhydrite, and an agentresulting in macroscopic voids. The quartz sand used as a rawmaterial may be replaced by a siliceous fine aggregate otherthan sand, and usually is ground to a fine powder before use.Fly ash may be used as a sand replacement. The batched rawmaterials are mixed thoroughly together to form a slurry.Theslurry is cast into steel molds.Due to the chemical reactionsthat take place within the slurry, the volume expands.Aftersetting, and before hardening, the mass is machine cut intounits of various sizes. The units then are steam-cured underpressure in autoclaves where the material is transformed into ahard calcium silicate.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.See Section 6,7,and 8.1.5 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization
