Designation:C1530/C1530M04(Reapproved 2014)Standard Specification forNon-Asbestos Fiber-Cement Roofing Shakes,Shingles, andSlates with Designed Varying Profiles and Thicknesses1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C1530/C1530M;the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval.A superscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers non-asbestos fiber-cementroofing shakes, shingles, and slates that are of designed varyingprofiles and thicknesses manufactured to provide the weather-exposed surfaces on roofs of buildings.1.2 This specification does not include details of productinstallation or system performance.Refer to the manufacturersinstallation literature for proper installation instructions,toSpecification C1459 for roofing systems performance, and toTest Method E108 for levels of fire resistance.1.3 This specification is not applicable to asbestos-cementor fiber-cement products as specified in Specifications C222and C1225.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other.Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory requirements prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2C222 Specification for Asbestos-Cement Roofing ShinglesC1154 Terminology for Non-Asbestos Fiber-Reinforced Ce-ment ProductsC1185 Test Methods for Sampling applied to the center.4.Manufacture and Composition4.1 ManufactureThese products shall be formed eitherwith or without pressure and cured either under natural oraccelerated conditions,to meet the physical requirements ofthis specification.4.2 CompositionThis specification is applicable to fiber-cement roofing products, consisting of an inorganic binder(forexample,Portland cement)reinforced by discrete non-asbestosfibers.NOTE1Process aids, fillers, mineral aggregates, and pigments arepermitted.5.Mechanical and Physical Properties5.1 Mechanical and physical properties,as defined in Sec-tion 9,shall be determined on uncoated and unsealedspecimens, unless the coating is an integral part of the product.Where products are tested coated or sealed, the results shall be1This specification is
