Designation:C 1250 05Standard Test Method forNonvolatile Content of Cold Liquid-Applied ElastomericWaterproofing Membranes1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 1250;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon(e)indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method describes a laboratory procedure fordetermining the average nonvolatile content for one-or two-component cold liquid-applied elastomeric waterproofingmembranes.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values in parentheses are for information only.1.3 The committee with jurisdiction over this standard is notaware of any comparable standards published by other orga-nizations.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2C 717 Terminology of Building Seals and Sealants3.Terminology3.1 DefinitionsRefer to Terminology C 717 for definitionsused in standard.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 This test method consists of preparing duplicatesamples, each of known mass, and aging these samples for 72h at 70 6 2C(158 6 3.6F)in an air-circulating oven.5.Significance and Use5.1 This test method is used to determine the nonvolatilecontent of cold liquid-applied elastomeric waterproofing mem-branes and can be useful in determining application coveragerates.6.Apparatus6.1 Forced-draft Oven, controlled to 70 6 2C(158 63.6F).6.2 Balance, sensitive to 0.01 g.6.3 Two Aluminum Weighing Dishes,57 by 18 mm.7.Conditioning/Mixing7.1 Unless otherwise specified by those authorizing thetests, standard conditions for all tests are 23 6 2C(73.4 63.6F)and 50 6 5%relative humidity.7.2 Store all membrane materials to be tested in an un-opened container at standard conditions for at least 24 h beforeany test specimens are prepared.7.3 Follow the manufacturers instructions for mixing andpreparing membrane materials for testing.Thoroughly mixone-component materials before using.Mix two-componentcompounds in the ratio recommended by the manufacturer.8.Procedure8.1 For each test sample, prepare two test specimens asfollows:8.1.1 Mark each aluminum weighing dish for identification.Accurately weigh each aluminum weighing dish to the nearest0.01 g.Record each mass.8.1.2 Place an aluminum weighing dish on the balance andtare.Add 5.06 0.2 g of compound and spread evenly over theinterior surface area of the dish.8.1.3 Reweigh the test specimen, combination membrane, and dish, and record the mass.8.1.4 Repeat 8.1.2 and 8.1.3 for duplicate specimens.8.1.5 Immediately place the dishes in a forced-draft oven for72 h at 70 6 2C(158 6 3.6F).8.1.6 Remove the specimens and allow them to cool atstandard conditions for 30 min.Weigh the specimens andcalculate the percent nonvolatile as follows:nonvolatile,%5 W32 W1!/W22 W1!#3 100(1)where:W1=mass of aluminum weighing dish,W2=mass of aluminum dish with fresh compound,andW3=mass of heat-aged dish and compound.Volatile Content,%5 100 2 nonvolatile!(2)1This test method is under the jurisdiction ofASTM Committee D08 on Roofingand Waterproofing and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D08.22 onWaterproofing and Dampproofing Systems.Current edition approved July 1,2005.Published August 2005.Originallyapproved in 1993.Last previous edition approved in 2005 as C
