Designation:C1610/C1610M17Standard Test Method forStatic Segregation of Self-Consolidating Concrete UsingColumn Technique1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C1610/C1610M;the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval.A superscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope*1.1 This test method covers the determination of staticsegregation of self-consolidating concrete(SCC)by measuringthe coarse aggregate content in the top and bottom portions ofa cylindrical specimen(or column).1.2 This test method is not applicable to self-consolidatingconcrete containing lightweight aggregate.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other.Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.4 The text of this standard references notes and footnotesthat provide explanatory material. These notes and footnotes(excluding those in tables and figures)shall not be consideredas requirements of the standard.1.5 This test method is applicable under laboratory and fieldconditions.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.(WarningFreshhydraulic cementitious mixtures are caustic and may causechemical burns to skin and tissue upon prolonged exposure.2)1.7 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade(TBT)Committee.2.Referenced concrete.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 Asample of freshly-mixed self-consolidating concrete isplaced in a cylindrical mold without tamping or vibration.Themold is separated into three sections representing differentlevels of the cylindrical specimen(or column).Portions ofSCC from the top and bottom section are washed on a 4.75 mm(No.4)sieve,leaving the coarse aggregate on the sieve.Themasses of coarse aggregate in the top and the bottom sectionsare determined and the percent static segregation is calculated.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C09 onConcrete and Concrete Aggregates and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeC09.47 on Self-Consolidating Concrete.Current edition approved June 15,2017.Published July 2017.Originallyapproved in
