Designation:C65898(Reapproved 2012)Standard Specification forChemical-Resistant Resin Grouts for Brick or Tile1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C658;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers the requirements for chemical-resistant resin grouts for filling joints of chemical-resistantbrick or tile units. For use of these materials, see PracticeC723.(For mortars, see Specification C395.)1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.NOTE1Resin grouts and mortars are differentiated as follows:Resingrouts are applied to the joints,generally14in.(6 mm)wide, after thebrick or tile are set in place and the setting bed has hardened(grouting ortilesetters method).Resin mortars are trowelled onto the brick or tile insufficient quantity to achieve a18-in.(3-mm)thick joint after the brick ortile are laid in place(buttering or bricklayers method).2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2C307 Test Method for Tensile Strength of Chemical-Resistant Mortar,Grouts, and Monolithic SurfacingsC308 Test Methods for of Resins,Fillers, and Setting Agents4.1 The liquid resins may be furan, epoxy, vinyl ester, orothers capable of forming chemical-resistant grout when mixedwith a suitable setting agent and filler.4.2 The fillers may be silica, carbon,or other chemicalresistant materials.Fillers may be supplied as a separatecomponent or can be combined as a premix with the liquidresin and/or setting agent.4.3 The setting agents may include amines, polyamides, peroxides, acids,or other reactants.Setting agents may besupplied as a separate component to be incorporated into theresin and filler at the time of mixing or may be supplied as aconstituent of the filler.5.General Requirements5.1 When these components are mixed at 65 to 85F(18 to29C)they form a uniform and flowable grout. The mixedgrout shall be of a viscosity such that it will readily flow to thefull depth of the open joint.5.2 The filler shall have properly graded particles,notexceeding132in.(1 mm),that will permit the filling of aminimum joint width of316in.(5 mm).5.3 The service limitations of the grout shall be defined bythe manufacturer.6.Physical Requirements6.1 Chemical-resistant resin tile grouts prepared from thesematerials shall conform to the physical requirements prescribedin Table 1.7.Test Methods7.1 Determine the properties enumerated in this specifica-tion in accordance with the following methods:1This specification is
