D2683;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S.Department of Defense.1.Scope*1.1 This specification covers polyethylene socket-type fit-tings for use with outside diameter-controlled polyethylenepipe as specified by Specifications D3035 and D2513.Require-ments for materials,workmanship,dimensions,and pressureperformanceareincluded.Whereapplicableinthisspecification,“pipe”shall mean“pipe and tubing.”1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard.The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains thermoplastic pipe dimension ratio(SDR)the ratio of pipe outside diameter to wall thickness.It iscalculated by dividing the average outside diameter of the pipeby the minimum wall thickness.4.Classification4.1 This specification covers polyethylene fittings of thesocket type made as specified in 5.1 and 5.21This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F17 on
