Designation:D 3544 76(Reapproved 1996)Standard Guide forReporting Test Methods and Results on High ModulusFibers1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 3544;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon(e)indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1.Scope1.1 Committee D-30,having conducted several interlabora-tory tests of high modulus fibers, believes that many types ofequipment and techniques will yield consistent data character-izing the tensile strength and modulus of high modulus fibers. The most important consideration is the complete descriptionof the test methods.1.2 This guide consists of the following three parts:1.2.1 Part ADescription of Equipment and TechniquesThis section describes the equipment and the techniques usedfor each series of tests. The section is complete and universal, and should be reviewed by the engineer or scientist responsiblefor the overall test program.1.2.2 Part BDescription of Test SpecimensThis sectiondescribes each type of fiber tested in a particular series, and canbe prepared by the test technician.1.2.3 Part CReport of Tension Test ResultsThis sectionsummarizes the results of each test series. The format simpli-fies the reporting of essential data.Additional information maybe required to report the results of tests on specific fiber types.1.3 This standard may involve hazardous materials,opera-tions,and equipment. This standard does not purport toaddress all of the safety problems associated with its use.It isthe responsibility of the user of this standard to establishappropriate safety and health practices and determine theapplicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.Significance and Use2.1 The purpose of this guide is to be a research tool(1)toaid in the analysis and correlation of test results obtained fromthe use of various types of tension testing equipment bydifferent investigators and(2)to identify the important detailsthat must be made in testing to make the results easilyunderstood and comparable with the results of other investiga-tors.NOTE1The ASTM practice of providing units of measure in theInternational System of Units(SI)has been used. The SI unit for pressureor stress is pascal(Pa 5 N/m2)or megapascal(MPa 5 MN/m2).Thefollowing equivalents may be helpful:1 lbf 5 4.448 N1 psi 5 6895 Pa 5 6.895 kPa1000 psi 5 6.895 MPaPART ADESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT AND TECHNIQUESDESCRIPTION OF TENSION TEST MACHINEDate_Manufacturer,Model,and ModificationsOrientation of Test
