Designation:D362378a(Reapproved 2020)Standard Test Method for TestingAntifouling Panels in Shallow Submergence1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D3623;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S.Department of Defense.1.Scope1.1 This test method covers a procedure for testing antifoul-ing compositions in shallow marine environments and astandard antifouling panel of known performance to serve as acontrol in antifouling studies.NOTE1Subcommittee D01.45 has a revised rating procedure nowbeing evaluated by round robin.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety, health, and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to structures.4.3 The degree and type of fouling will vary depending onthe environment.Hence, differences in geographic location oftest sites,in time of year when panels are exposed, and inweather conditions from 1 year to the next can affect results. Therefore,a fouling census on a nontoxic surface is taken.Forthe exposure to be valid the nontoxic surface should showheavy fouling, and the standard system should show signifi-cantly less fouling than the nontoxic surface(see Annex A3and Annex A4).5.Apparatus5.1 Blast Cleaning Apparatus capable of preparing panels incompliance with
