Designation:D476218Standard Guide forTesting Polymer Matrix Composite Materials1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D4762;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This guide summarizes the application of ASTM stan-dard test methods(and other supporting standards)tocontinuous-fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite materi-als.The most commonly used or most applicable ASTMstandards are included,emphasizing use of standards of Com-mittee D30 on Composite Materials.1.2 This guide does not cover all possible standards thatcould apply to polymer matrix composites and restricts discus-sion to the documented scope.Commonly used but non-standard industry extensions of test method scopes,such asapplication of static test methods to fatigue testing,are notdiscussed.A more complete summary of general compositetesting standards,including non-ASTM test methods,is in-cluded in the Composite Materials Handbook(CMH-17).2Additional specific recommendations for testing textile(fabric,braided)composites are contained in Guide D6856.1.3 This guide does not specify a system of measurement;the systems specified within each of the referenced standardsshall apply as appropriate.Note that the referenced standardsof ASTM Committee D30 are either SI-only or combined-unitstandards with SI units listed first.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety,health,and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.5 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally
