Designation:D467121Standard Test Method forPolyurethane Raw Materials:Determination of Unsaturationof Polyols1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D4671;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope*1.1 This test method measures unsaturation in polyetherpolyols.(See Note 1.)It uses 2 mL of ca.0.05 M mercuricacetate reagent in methanol and about 1 g of sample or less. This test method uses a potentiometric determination of an endpoint.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.3 Mercury has been designated by many regulatory agen-cies as a hazardous substance that can cause serious medicalissues.Mercury,or its vapor, has been demonstrated to behazardous to health and corrosive to materials.Caution shouldbe taken when handling mercury and mercury containingproducts.See the applicable product Safety Data Sheet(SDS)for additional information.Users should be aware that sellingmercury and/or mercury containing products into your state orcountry may be prohibited by law.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety, health, and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.NOTE1This standard is equivalent to ISO 17710.1.5 This international standard was developed in acetoxymercuricmethoxy compounds andacetic acid.5The amount of acetic acid released in thisequimolar reaction, which is determined by titration withstandard alcoholic potassium hydroxide,is a measure of theunsaturation originally present.Because the acid cannot betitrated in the presence of excess mercuric acetate, due to the1These test methods are under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D20
