Designation:D6222/D6222M16Standard Specification forAtactic Polypropylene(APP)Modified Bituminous SheetMaterials Using Polyester Reinforcements1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D6222/D6222M;the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval.A superscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers prefabricated modified bitumi-nous sheet materials reinforced with polyester fabric, with orwithout granules, that use atactic polypropylene(APP)as theprimary modifier and are intended for use in the fabrication ofmultiple ply roofing and waterproofing membranes.NOTE1Many modified bituminous sheets are currently marketed withpolyester mat reinforced with glass yarns to improve processing in themanufacture of the finished modified bitumen product and to reducedistortions that may be introduced during production. These glass yarnsare typically a small percentage of the reinforcement and do not contributeto the physical properties of the finished product so much as to make theseproducts be classified by Specification D6223/D6223M.1.2 This specification is intended as a material specificationonly.Issues regarding the suitability of specific roof construc-tions or application techniques are beyond the scope of thisspecification.1.3 The specified tests and property limits used to charac-terize the sheet materials covered by this specification areintended to establish minimum properties.In-place roof systemdesign criteria such as fire resistance, field strength,impact/puncture resistance, material compatibility, uplift resistance, the need for field applied coatings, and others, are factorsbeyond the scope of this material specification.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other.Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.5 The following precautionary statement pertains only tothe test method portion,Section 9,of this specification:Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicability of regulatory limita-tions prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2D1079 Terminology Relating to Roofing and WaterproofingD5147/D5147M Test Methods for Sampling and TestingModified Bituminous Sheet
