asphalt cements that have beenmodified by the addition of a chemical gellant.It was devel-oped to provide a reference for specifying chemically modifiedasphalt cement and reflects the properties of currently availablecommercial products.The tests are intended to measure degreeof modification,not performance characteristics.This is notintended to be a performance-based specification.1.2 Chemically modified asphalt cements are normally pro-duced by addition of a chemical stabilizer.However,anyasphalt modifier may be used that will give the required testresults when blended with the desired asphalt.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard.No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.4 The text of this standard references notes and footnoteswhich provide explanatory material.These notes and footnotes(excluding those in tables and figures)shall not be consideredas requirements of the standard.1.5 The following precautionary statement pertains to thetest method portion only,Section 5,of this specification:Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety,health,andenvironmental practices and determine the applicability ofregulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This
