since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers the barium sulfate pigmentscommercially known as barytes and blanc fixe.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard.The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.3 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to barium sulfate(BaSO4)without any admixture of other materials in the case of blancfixe,and without any admixture of other materials not naturallyoccurring in the barite ore in the case of barytes,and whichconform to the following requirements:BarytesBlancFixeBarium sulfate,min,%9497Ferric oxide,max,%0.050.02pH,min3.53.5Matter soluble in water,max,%0.20.2Moisture and other volatile matter,max,%0.50.5Coarse particles(total residue retained onNo.325(45-m sieve),max,%0.50.5Free silica(quartz,clays,or other foreignmaterials),max,%2.02.03.2 In such physical properties as are specified by thepurchaser,the pigment shall satisfactorily match a referencesample mutually agreed upon by the purchaser and the seller.4.Sampling4.1 Two samples shall be taken at random from differentpackages from each lot,batch,days pack,or other unit ofproduction in a shipment.When no markings distinguishingbetween units of production appear,samples shall be takenfrom different packages in the ratio of two samples of each5000 kg(10 000 lb),except that for shipments of less than 10000 lb two samples shall be taken.At the option of thepurchaser,the samples may be tested separately or afterblending in equal quantities the samples from the sameproduction unit to form a composite sample.5.Test Methods5.1 Tests shall be conducted in accordance with the follow-ingASTM test methods.Test
