Designation:D779019Standard Guide forPreparation of Plastic Packagings Containing Liquids forUnited Nations(UN)Drop Testing1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D7790;the number reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope*1.1 This guide is intended to provide a standardized methodand a set of basic instructions for special preparation condi-tioning of drop test samples being subjected to United Nations(UN)performance-oriented packaging certification as requiredby United States Department of Transportation Title 49 Codeof Federal Regulations(49 CFR)and the United NationsRecommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods(UN).1.2 This guide provides guidance on conditioning testsamples for drop testing plastic Non-Bulk Packaging,Interme-diate Bulk Container(IBC),and Large Packaging designsintended for liquid hazardous materials(dangerous goods)asrequired by 49 CFR 178.603(c)(1),178.810(b)(4),and178.965(c),respectively.This guide also provides the mini-mum information that should be documented when conductingspecial preparation conditioning.1.3 The user of this guide shall be trained in accordancewith 49 CFR 172.700 and other applicable hazardous mate-rials regulations including:the International Civil AviationOrganization(ICAO)Technical Instructions for the Safe Trans-port of Dangerous Goods by Air,the International MaritimeDangerous Goods Code(IMDG Code),and carrier rules suchas the International Air Transport Association(IATA)Danger-ous Goods Regulations.1.4 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are regarded as thestandard.No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety,health,and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on
