covers the empirical procedures fordetermining the Saybolt Universal or Saybolt Furol viscositiesof petroleum products at specified temperatures between 21and 99C 70 and 210F.A special procedure for waxyproducts is indicated.NOTE1Test Methods D445 and D2170/D2170M are preferred for thedetermination of kinematic viscosity.They require smaller samples andless time,and provide greater accuracy.Kinematic viscosities may beconverted to Saybolt viscosities by use of the tables in Practice D2161.Itis recommended that viscosity indexes be calculated from kinematic ratherthan Saybolt viscosities.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard.The values stated ineach system are not necessarily exact equivalents;therefore,toensure conformance with the standard,each system shall beused independently of the other,and values from the twosystems shall not be combined.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety,health,and environmental practices and
