Designation:D654518Standard Test Method forFlammability of Textiles Used in Childrens Sleepwear1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D6545;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method evaluates the relative flammability oftextiles and garments intended for use in childrens sleepwear.The procedures of this test method follow testing and launder-ing procedures used to evaluate the flammability of childrenssleepwear contained in U.S.Federal Regulations 16 CFR 1615and 1616.1.2 A textile used in childrens sleepwear must be tested inits original state and after 50 laundering and drying cycles toassess the flame resistance of the textile relative to its use life.1.3 This method is identical to the method outlined in theregulations 16 CFR 1615 or 1616.The regulation includesadditional information such as sampling plans,record keepingrequirements,and interpretations for compliance applicable tochildrens sleepwear.Please consult 16 CFR 1615 and 1616 forthese operations and interpretations.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard;inch-pound units are provided for information only.1.5 This test method is used to measure and describe theresponse of materials,products,or assemblies to heat andflame under controlled conditions,but does not by itselfincorporate all factors required for fire hazard or fire riskassessment of the materials,products,or assemblies underactual fire conditions.1.6 Fire testing is inherently hazardous.Adequate safe-guards for personnel and property shall be employed inconducting these tests.1.7 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any,associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety,health,and environmental health practices anddetermines the applicability of regulatory limitations prior touse.Specific precautionary information is
