Designation:D8265−21StandardPracticesforElectricalMethodsforMappingLeaksinInstalledGeomembranes1ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationD8265;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(´)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.1.Scope1.1Thesepracticesdescribestandardproceduresforusingelectricalmethodstolocateleaksingeomembranescoveredwithliquidorearthenmaterials,orboth.1.2Thesepracticesareintendedtoensurethatleaklocationsurveysareperformedtothehighesttechnicalcapabilityofelectricalmethods,whichshouldresultincompleteliquidcontainment(noleaksingeomembrane).1.3Notallsiteswillbeeasilyamenabletothismethod,butsomepreparationcanbeperformedinordertoenablethismethodatnearlyanysiteasoutlinedinSection6.Ifidealtestingconditionscannotbeachieved,themethodcanstillbeperformed,butanyissueswithsiteconditionsaredocumented.1.4Leaklocationsurveyscanbeusedongeomembranesinstalledinbasins,ponds,tanks,oreandwastepads,landfillcells,landfillcaps,andothercontainmentfacilities.Theproceduresareapplicableforgeomembranesmadeofmaterialssuchaspolyethylene,polypropylene,polyvinylchloride,chlo-rosulfonatedpolyethylene,bituminousmaterial,andothersufficientlyelectricallyinsulatingmaterials.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.6Theelectricalmethodsusedforgeomembraneleaklocationshouldbeattemptedonlybyqualifiedandexperiencedpersonnel.Appropriatesafetymeasuresshouldbetakentoprotecttheleaklocationoperators,aswellasotherpeopleatthesite.Acurrentlimiterofnogreaterthan290mAshouldbeusedforalldirectcurrentpowersourcesusedtoconductthesurvey.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappro-priatesafety,health,andenvironmentalpracticesanddeter-minetheapplicabilityofregulator...
