Designation:D7506/D7506M17Standard Test Method forPocket Reinforcement1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D7506/D7506M;the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval.A superscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This test method utilizes the grab procedures to deter-mine localized weakness due to bar-tacking in the pocket areasof all types of garments. This can be utilized to test bar-tackingin the pockets of shirts,as well as side or back pockets oftrousers, pants,or jeans.1.2 This test method provides the values in both inch-poundand SI units.Inch-pound units is the technically correct namefor the customary units used in the United States.SI units is thetechnially correct name for the system of metric units know asthe International System of Units. The values stated in eitheracceptable metric units or in other units shall be regardedseparately as standard. The values stated in each system maynot be exact equivalents;therefore, each system must be usedindependently of the other, without combining in any way.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade(TBT)Committee.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2D76 Specification for Tensile Testing Machines for TextilesD123 Terminology Relating to constant-rate-of-extension tensile testing machine(CRE),na testing machine in which the rate of increase ofspecimen length is uniform with time.3.1.2 grab test, nin fabric testing,a tensile test in whichthe central part of the width of the specimen is gripped in theclamps.3.1.3 tensile test, nin textiles,a test in which a textilematerial is stretched in one direction to determine the loadelongation characteristics,in the breaking load,or the breakingelongation.3.1.4 For definitions of other terms used in this test method, refer to Terminology D123.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 A specimen of the pocket area with the bar-tacking ismounted centrally in clamps of the tensile strength machineand a force is applied until the specimen breaks.5.Apparatus5.1Constant-rate-of-extension(CRE)tensile testingmachine,as used in Test Method D5034,conforming toSpecification D76.5.2 Clamps and jaws, rubber faced or other grippingsurfacejaw faces must measure 25 6 1 mm(1.0 6 0.02 in.)wide at least 25 mm(1.0 in.),perpendicular to the direction ofthe force, and not less than 25 nor more than 50 mm(1.0 normore than 2.0 in.).The back,or bottom, jaw face of each clampshall be at least as large as its mate.Use of a larger face for thesecond jaw reduces the problem of front and back jaw facemisalignment.6.Safety Precautions6.1 It is the users responsibility to use safe and propertechniques when handling or using any of the equipmentmentioned.6.2 Good laboratory practice should be followed.Wearsafety glasses in all laboratory test
