Designation:D704321Standard Test Method forIndicating Wear Characteristics of Non-Petroleum andPetroleum Hydraulic Fluids in a Constant Volume VanePump1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D7043;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope*1.1 This test method covers a constant volume vane pumptest procedure operated at 1200 r min and 13.8 MPa.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.2.1 ExceptionThere are no SI equivalents for the inchfasteners and inch O-rings that are used in the apparatus in thistest method.1.2.2 ExceptionIn some cases English pressure values aregiven in parentheses as a safety measure.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety, health, and environmental practices and deter-mine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.4 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards,Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade(TBT)Committee.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2D2882 Test Method for Indicating Wear Characteristics ofPetroleum and Non-Petroleum Hydraulic Fluids in Con-stant Volume Vane hydraulic fluid arecirculated through a rotary vane pump system for 100 h at apump speed of 1200 r min 6 60 r min and a pump outletpressure of 13.8 MPa 6 0.3 MPa(2000 psi 6 40 psi).Fluidtemperature at the pump inlet is 66 C 6 3 C for all waterglycols, emulsions, and other water containing fluids and forpetroleum and synthetic fluids of ISO Grade 46 or lowerviscosity.A temperature of 80 C 6 3 C is used for all othersynthetic and petroleum fluids.4.2 The result obtained is the total mass loss from the camring and the twelve vanes during the test.Other reported valuesare initial flow rate and final flow rate.4.3 The total quantity of test fluid required for a run is26.5 L.5.Significance and Use5.1 This test method is an indicator of the wear character-istics of non-petroleum and petroleum hydraulic fluids operat-ing in a constant volume vane pump.Excessive wear in vanepumps could lead to malfunction of hydraulic systems incritical applications.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D02 onPetroleum Products,Liquid Fuels, and Lubricants and is the direct responsibility ofSubcommittee D02.N0 on Hydraulic Fluids.Current edition approved
