Designation:D 729 95An American National StandardStandard Specification forVinylidene Chloride Molding Compounds1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 729;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon(e)indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This specification covers thermoplastic molding com-pounds composed of a copolymer of vinyl chloride andvinylidene chloride in the approximate ratio of 10 to 90,withsuitable plasticizers, stabilizers, dyes, and pigments. The mold-ing compounds are suitable for compression, injection, orextrusion molding.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard.NOTE1The properties included in this specification are those re-quired to identify the types of molding materials covered. There may beother requirements necessary to identify particular characteristics.Thesewill be added to the specification as their inclusion becomes generallydesirable and the necessary test data and methods become available.NOTE2There is no similar or equivalent ISO standard.1.3 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest method portion,Section 8,of this specification.Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicability of regulatory limita-tions prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:D 149 Test Method for Dielectric Breakdown Voltage andDielectric This specification covers one general-purpose type ofvinylidene chloride material in the form of powder or pellets.5.General Requirements5.1 The material shall be of uniform composition and socompounded as to conform to the requirements prescribed inthis specification.5.2 The form and color shall be as specified by the pur-chaser in the contract or order.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D-20 onPlastics and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee D20.15 on ThermoplasticMaterials(Section D20.15.01).Current edition approved Dec.10,1995.Published
