Designation:E212701a(Reapproved 2015)1Standard Methods ofStatic Load Test for Combined Tensile and Transverse LoadResistance of Paneled Wall Systems in BuildingConstruction1This standard is issued under the fixed designation E2127;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision, the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1NOTEUnits statement was inserted in 1.4 editorially in March 2015.1.Scope1.1 These test methods cover the procedures for determin-ing the resistance of paneled wall systems subjected to com-bined lateral loads and axial loads.1.2 These test methods involve the simultaneous applicationof transverse(lateral wind)and tensile(wind uplift)loads topaneled wall system assemblies anchored at both ends withhold-down connectors.1.3 These test methods are suitable for determining thestructural adequacy of the design, system, and wall fabricationtechnique, and are not intended to evaluate the strengthcapacity of the hold-down connectors.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns,if any, associated with its use.It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2E575 Practice for Reporting Data from Structural Tests ofBuilding E631.4.Summary of Test Method4.1 The tensile and bending capacity of the paneled wallsystem is determined by applying a simultaneous tensile andtransverse load to a wall specimen. This is accomplished byanchoring one end of the specimen and applying a tensile loadto the opposing end while applying a transverse load;see Figs.1 and 2.The forces required to deflect the specimen and thecorresponding displacements at each load interval are mea-sured.5.Significance and Use5.1 The procedures described will test the behavior ofsegments of paneled wall system construction under conditionsrepresentative of those encountered in service.Performancecriteria based on data from those procedures can verifystructural adequacy and service life.6.Test Apparatus6.1 Test Assembly:6.1.1 GeneralTests shall be made on three like specimensfor each orientation. All system elements shall be fastened in amanner to conform with the wall specifications. The wallsystem shall be representative of actual building construction.6.1.2 ConnectionsThe performance of the wall is influ-enced by the type and spacing of the anchoring to the upper andlower ends of the wall.6.1.3 Paneled Wall System RequirementsThe paneled wallsystem specimen shall be comprised of members and connec-tors representative of those used in building construction, except that the specimen is permitted to consist of a core onwhich paneled wall system surface units are placed.6.1.4 Test SetupThe paneled wall system specimen shallbe tested vertically or horizontally so that surface units may be1These test methods are forsimultaneous transverse and tensile load application. The topand bottom of the specimen shall be attached to rigid supports.6.1.5 Paneled Wall System SizeThe paneled wall systemspecimen height shall not be less than the actual height of thewall, and the width shall be minimum 48 in.(120 cm)wide, orthe width of an individual wall panel(if the individual panelwidth is greater than 48 in.wide).7.Procedure7.1 Number of TestsConduct a minimum of three tests foreach of the two orientations.Conduct the first set of tests withthe specimen orientation applicable to the positive pressureload application;see Fig.1;conduct the second set of tests withthe specimen orientation applicable to th
