Designation:E2461−12StandardPracticeforDeterminingtheThicknessofGlassinAirportTrafficControlTowerCabs1ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationE2461;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(´)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.1.Scope1.1Thispracticecoversthedeterminationofthethicknessofglassinstalledinairporttrafficcontroltowers(ATCT)toresistaspecifieddesignloadingwithaselectedprobabilityofbreakagelessthanorequaltoeither1liteper1000or4litesper1000atthefirstoccurrenceofthedesignwindloading.1.2Theproceduresapplytocommonoutwardslopingcabglassdesignsforwhichthespecifiedloadsdonotexceed10kPa(210psf).1.3Theproceduresassumecontroltowercabglasshasanaspectrationogreaterthan2.1.4Theproceduresassumecontroltowercabglasshasanareanolessthan1.86squaremetres(20squarefeet).1.5Theproceduresapplyonlytoannealedmonolithic,annealedlaminated,orannealedinsulatingglasshavingarectangularortrapezoidalshape.1.6Theuseoftheproceduresassumesthefollowing:1.6.1AnnealedmonolithicandannealedlaminatedglassinstalledinATCTsshallhavecontinuouslateralsupportalongtwoparalleledges,alonganythreeedges,oralongallfouredges;1.6.2Insulatingglassshallhavecontinuouslateralsupportalongallfouredges;and1.6.3Supportedglassedgesaresimplysupportedandfreetoslipinplane.1.7Theproceduresdonotapplytoanyformofwired,patterned,etched,sandblasted,orglasstypeswithsurfacetreatmentsthatreducetheglassstrength.1.8Theproceduresdonotapplytoanyformofheattreatedglass,chemicallystrengthenedglass,oranytypeofglasswithsurfacetreatmentsintendedtoincreasetheglassstrength.1.9Theproceduresaddressthedeterminationofthicknessandconstructiontypetoresistaspecifieddesignwindloadataselectedprobabilityofbreakage.Thefinalglassthicknessandconstructiondeterminedalsodependsuponavarietyofotherfactors(see5.3).1.10Theseproceduresdonotaddressblastloadingonglass.1.11Thevaluesstate...
