Designation:E206511Standard Guide forRequirements for Psychophysiological Detection ofDeception(PDD)Examiners1This standard is issued under the fixed designation E2065;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 The purpose of this guide is to establish requirementsfor all individuals engaged in forensic psychophysiologicaldetection of deception(PDD).1.2 All individuals engaged in the practice of conductingPDD examinations shall adhere to this guide.2.Referenced Documents2.1 ASTM Standards:2E2035 Terminology Relating to Forensic Psychophysiology3.Terminology3.1 For definitions of terms,see Terminology E2035.4.Summary of Practice4.1 A PDD examiner shall not circumvent or attempt tocircumvent,violate,or attempt to violate any of the following:4.1.1 Any legislative act which regulates or governs the useof PDD.4.1.2 PDD examiners shall avoid conducting an examina-tion in a situation in which there is a real or apparent conflictof interest.4.1.3 A PDD examiner shall not release any confidentialinformation except when legally required to do so.4.1.4 A PDD examiner or his or her employee or associate,with the PDD examiners knowledge,shall not engage in anytype of advertising which would be considered false,deceptive,or misleading.4.1.5 A PDD examiner shall not provide any false ormisrepresented information in any of his or her writtenreport(s)or record(s)4.1.5.1 A PDD examiner shall not omit any pertinentdetail(s)from any written report or record.4.1.6 A PDD examiner shall not alter or cause to be alteredany tracing(s)during a PDD examination in order to improp-erly influence the outcome of that examination.4.1.7 A PDD examiner shall not administer a PDD exami-nation if he or she reasonably believes the examinee is notphysically or mentally suitable for the examination.4.1.8 A PDD examiner shall not solicit or accept fees,gratuities,or gifts which are intended or could reasonably beperceived to be intended to influence the examiners opinion.4.1.8.1 Fees shall not be contingent on the results of theexamination.4.1.9 A PDD examiner shall not form an opinion that isinfluenced by anything other than the PDD examination.4.1.9.1 No other credibility assessment method shall beincluded in the PDD report.4.1.10 A PDD examiner shall not include(in any examina-tion)questions that are intended to inquire into or developinformation on activities,affiliations,or beliefs in religion,politics,or race,except when relevant.4.1.11 A PDD examiner who is also a mental healthcounselor,marriage counselor,sex offender treatment provider,and any similarly recognized professional,or any combinationthereof,shall not conduct a PDD examination on any personwhom he or she is also actively counseling or treating.4.1.12 A PDD examiner who is also employed in a courtsupervision capacity,such as that of a probation or paroleofficer,shall not conduct a PDD examination on any personwho is under his or her direct supervision.Because the role ofthe PDD examiner is that of an independent arbiter in search ofthe truth,the integrity of that role is compromised when anexaminer has had contemporaneous supervision responsibili-ties of an examinee.4.1.13 A polygraph examiner shall not represent that he orshe has a particular academic degree unless one of the twofollowing criteria was met:(1)The degree was awarded froman institution that is accredited to grant that degree by anational,regional or professional accrediting agency recog-nized by the United States Department of Education or theCouncil for Higher Education Accreditation(CHEA).(2)Thedegree was awarded from a school,institute,college,or1This guide is under the jurisdiction of
