Designation:E208014Standard Guide forClinical Psychophysiological Detection of Deception(PDD)Examinations for Sex Offenders1This standard is issued under the fixed designation E2080;the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or,in the case of revision,the year of last revision.A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.Asuperscript epsilon()indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1.Scope1.1 This guide establishes procedures for conducting aclinical polygraph examination(CPE),to include,but notlimited to,post conviction sex offender testing(PCSOT).ThisPDD model is specifically intended to assist in the treatmentand supervision of sex offenders on probation,parole,or adeferred prosecution alternative.1.2 This guide also applies to the conduct of clinicalpolygraph examinations for therapeutic purposes when re-quested by a presiding legal authority.1.3 This guide directs that aredefined in Terminology E2035.3.2 Specific terms within this guide found in TerminologyE2035 are:clinical PDD examinations,disclosure over sexualhistory examinations,maintenance examinations over treat-ment issues,maintenance examinations over supervisionissues,monitoring examinations,specific denial examinationsover instant offense,and successive hurdles approach.4.Significance and Use4.1 Clinical PDD examinations refer to the employment ofpolygraph instrumentation for the purpose of detecting decep-tion or verifying truthfulness of statements of individuals undercourt supervision,or in treatment for the commission of a sexoffense.4.2 Clinical PDD examinations are specifically intended toassist in the detection,treatment,or supervision of sex offend-ers.4.3 Clinical PDD testing should be regarded as a decision-support tool intended to assist professionals in making impor-tant decisions regarding risk and safety assessments.ClinicalPDD testing should not replace the need for other forms ofbehavioral monitoring or traditional forms of supervision andfield investigations.5.Clinical PDD Examiner Qualifications5.1 Clinical PDD examiners shall meet the basic qualifica-tions in accordance with ASTM standards in accordance withGuide E2000.5.2 Clinical PDD examiners shall possess the necessarycurrent certificate or license in accordance with their statestatute or jurisdictional authority.5.3 Examiners who conduct clinical PDD examinationsshall successfully complete a minimum of,but not limited to,40 h of specialized sex offender training in accordance withASTM standards in accordance with Guide E2163.6.Continuing Education6.1 Clinical PDD examiners shall maintain continuing edu-cation in accordance with ASTM standards in accordance withGuide E2064.1This guide is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee E52 on ForensicPsychophysiology and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee E52.05 onPsychophysiological Detection of Deception(PDD).Current Clinical PDD Examinations7.1 The examiner shall not conduct more than four separateclinical PDD examinations per year on the same examinee.7.1.1 Additional testing to resolve the initial issue(s),even ifconducted on different days,is not considered a separateexamination within the scope of the standard.7.2 The examiner shall not conduct a clinical PDD exami-nation of less than 90 min.7.3 The following is the maximum number of examinationsthat shall be conducted by an examiner in any single calendarday:7.3.1 The examiner shall not conduct more than threeclinical PDD sexual history
