Manufacturers(NAPM)Standards referred to herein are a temporary device to coordinate industry conversion to the proposed standards without costly delays.Reference to NAPM Standards can eventually be discontinued. This Standard is one of a series of standards for interchangeable punches and accessories for precision stamping dies as developed and proposed by NAPM.This group of punches is pnmanly intended for use in various stamping dies,as built by die makers, for long-run production of specific and individual metal parts in many different kinds of punch presses.Retention of these punches requires precision,ball-lock retainers incorporating a hardened retainer ball in an angular hole, and spring-loaded,that locks into the ball detent provided in the punches. The punch can be normally released from the retainer allowing punch replace-ment without dismounting the retainer.See ASMEIANSI B94.16-1987(NAPM Standards Nos.45 and 46)for standard retainers for single punches and ASME/ANSI B94.17-1987(NAPM Standards Nos.85 and 86)for functional gaging for locking interchangeability. The members of NAPM have been major contributors to the development of these standards in their committee work, their individual concessions to the general good, their intimate knowledge of the items standardized, and their active efforts in the promotion of adoption of the standards.User representatives on USA Standards Committee B94,TC 16,have been uniquely effective in their concise presentation of application needs that so greatly contributed to the rapid progress of the committee.Technical Committee No.16 has balanced representation of the interests of punch manu-facturers and punch users and has thoroughly reviewed the proposal before approving it.The first meeting of TC 16 was April 23,1964.This Standard was submitted to industry for review and com
