Engineers,wasreorganized asanASME StandardsCommittee and its title was changed to Hand Tools and Accessories.In 1996,the B173 Committee,which had published an earlier version of this Standard as B173.1,merged with the B107 Commit-tee and the B107 Committee scope was expanded to include safety considerations.The purpose of this standard is to define essential safety considerations specifically applicableto nail hammers,to specify test methods to evaluate performance relating to the defined safetyconsiderations,and to indicate limitations of safe use.Principal changes in this edition of the Standard are the allowance of any material that meetsthe performance and safety requirements specified and the addition of a spalling test.TheformatofthisstandardisinaccordancewithTheASMECodes&StandardsWritingGuide2000.Requests for interpretations of the technical requirements of this Standard should be expressed inwriting to the
