Thisyearinparticularhasprovidedanopportunityforremembranceofallwholosttheirlivesintheconflict.ThecommemorationeventshavetouchedmanyontheIslandsandbeyond,culminatingintheDukeofYork''''srecentvisitandhispersonalgestureofreconciliationinlayingwreathsatboththeBritishandArgentinecemeteries.ThegroundwasofcoursepreparedbeforehandinaprofoundgestureofreconciliationbyyourGovernmentearlierintheyearintheirapprovalofplansforamemorialtotheArgentinewardeadatDarwin.
Eventssuchasthese,andthepersonalpilgrimagebymembersoftheSouthAtlanticMedalAssociationinNovember,havealsohighlightedtheclosebondsbetweenthosewhofoughtintheconflictandthosewhoenduredit.

TheIslandsPlanprovidesanadmirablestrategyforthecontinueddevelopmentofasustainableeconomy,protectionoftheenvironment,andimprovementstoyourqualityoflife.YouhaveachievedsomuchinrecentyearsandIamsurethatyourprudentmanagementofaffairswillcontinuetoprovideasecureplatformforfuturegenerations.
