MynameisHarryLin.OnMay25,1958,Iwasborninxinying,alittletowninSouthernFujian.Myfatherisafarmer,plantingbananasandpineapples,andmymothertakescareofthehouse.Ihavetwobrothersandonesister.Thoughnotwell-to-do,myparentshavebeenabletoprovidethewholefamilywithsufficientmeanstolivedecentlyandenjoyallmodernconveniences.
Myearlyeducationwasreceivedinmyhometown,i.e.sixyearsinprimaryschoolandthreeyearsinjuniormiddleschool.Aftercompletingnineyearsofformaleducationin1958.Iwenttoxiamenandparticipatedinthejointentranceexaminationforfive-yearjuniorcolleges.Fortunately,IwasadmittedtotheDepartmentofElectricalEngineeringatxiamenJuniorEngineeringCollege.IchoseElectricalEngineeringasmymajorbecause,ontheonehand,IlikedPhysicsverymuch;andontheotherhand,electricalindustryisamajorsectoroftheeconomyofChina.
ThefiveyearsofintensivetrainingcametoanendinJune1978whenIreceivedadiploma.AndinJuly1980.IwashiredbyNanYaplasticCompanyandhaveservedasajuniorelectricalengineeratthecompanytothepresent.Ienjoytheworkandfeelcompetentforthejob.
Inworking,however,I''''veFoundthatwhatIhavelearnedinschoolislimitedandfarfromsufficienttohandlesophisticatedjobs.Therefore,IhavedecidedtoextendmyeducationandwouldliketoenteranAmericaninstitutionfirstlytoearnaBachelor''''sdegreeinElectricalEngineering.Then,ifpossible,IwouldliketocontinuemyeducationtowardaMaster''''sdegree.
